How Great Thou Art
Series: (All)
Hebrews 10:11-14
Too often, we vacillate in our lives between rules and freedom. In the church, we at times seem to set up a struggle between the law and grace. The fullness of who Jesus was and is points to necessity of both in our lives. It’s amazing to contemplate the ways in which God’s story unfolds in our lives. From the depths of our souls, we truly marvel at how great thou art!

    Listen Carefully
    Nehemiah 1:1-11
Sometimes, we are so determined to get to our destination, that we forget to take in the sight, sounds, and smells along the way. Our prayer life can sometimes act as a road map, and sometimes it helps us to see things on our journey that we might not have noticed otherwise.

    Provisions for the Journey
    Nehemiah 10:37-38
Any journey we take needs provisions. We need to know what to plan for, as well as for unforeseen circumstances we may not have anticipated. What happens when opportunities come up, and we haven't prepared for them?  What might God have us prepare for?

    Travel With a Friend
    Acts 2:42-47
Anytime we undertake a journey of any magnitude, it's important to never travel alone. This is also the case for our own spiritual journey.  Jesus himself gathered and traveled with companions.  Are you traveling alone, or have you joined with others to help, and be helped?

    The Way Up is Down
    Ephesians 4:8-13
One of the more confusing aspects of our faith can at times be our call to service. What if that service interrupts our previous plans? What if our service is to those with whom we disagree and may not want our service? In the end, we are called to unity in faith of the Body of Christ.

    Appreciate Your Surrounding
    Colossians 3:12-17
We get out of worship what we put into it. Our worship of God is to be an all the time thing, not just Sunday mornings. What is worship, and why did God command that we worship Him?  If this is so vital, what then are we supposed to do?  As we begin our new series about God’s spiritual trek with us, let us begin with the most basic, and essential command God has given us to love Him and the world.

    And They’ll Know We Are…
    Philippians 1:27- 2:4
The truth of who we are is clear by our actions. In imitating Christ, we find ourselves in similar circumstances when we are challenged and ridiculed. Our witness goes beyond what people see though. It is in our very thoughts and the feelings we harbor towards those with whom we disagree and who respond unkindly toward us.

    Guarding the Blindside
    Matthew 5:17-19
The words and actions of Jesus reflect the truth of God in our lives. The position that Jesus finds himself in is the ultimate predicament.  Where he tries to sow seeds of compassion, others point to the Law being broken.  When he demonstrates his adherence to the Law, others try to find ways in which he contradicts himself.  Our relationship with God can be equally hard when others judge our words against our actions.

    Head of the Household
    Jeremiah 29:10-14
Have you ever noticed that there are certain authority figures we seem to trust more than others? When we find ourselves at odds with others, we can make decisions to do it “our way”! But God’s word is clear that it is His way that leads to a life filled with purpose and joy. It is God’s divine truth that paves our path…if we will let it.

    Truth Sets Us Free
    John 8:31-36
The word truth conveys more than concept, but an anchor by which our lives are given security.  It can be difficult then if we understand truth to be a moving target.  As followers of Christ, we place our lives in the truth claims made in the Bible about our adoption in the family of God.  What does it mean then to live into that truth?

    I Believe…I Think
    Matthew 14:22-31
Our faith is a combination of trust in God and ourselves. Throughout the Bible, we are called to trust in God.  While we seek to do just that, we are too often overcome with that little voice of doubt in our mind.  “Did I really hear the voice of God?”
